Your city is like mine

Your city is like mine is a co-created sound pièce, poem and sensation of what we hear behind our respective windows. Whether situated in France or Korea, they enable us to see the changes in our cities, our neighbourhoods, or communities. Cities change without consent or control. We stand still, observing, listening, behind our glass that continue to provide us a sense of familiarity amidst urban transformations.

The window trembles.

Change can be heard.

Out there, everything shifts.

Nothing stirs inside my own house.

Do I have the right to be under construction too?

I observe.

Can I be a barricaded road, a sealed window?

Strangeness.

I observe.

These glazed windows, showing me people’s workplaces.

These gaping holes that look upon ruins of memories.

Strangeness.

These blasting winds that attempt to open the window panes.

These stones that try to break open the glass to get some fresh air.

I continue to observe,

hoping she would come to greet me.

I wait patiently under the shadows of a city that moves.

Behind a city that, like yours, breathes in rythme to change.

Never finished. Never done.

Could I forgive?

Could we start afresh?

Do I, too, have to the right to be under construction?

To wrap myself up in tape to prohibit any passage in me?

To cut the road-vein-arteries that provide access to my identity?

To be under construction indefinitely?

Memories cement up in concrete,

Longing takes its last breath inside the hollow earth.
